At present, the organization, implementation, and management of urban planning and development in our country are inadequate. Archives are often hand-made, systematic, easily lost, difficult to update regularly and sometimes incomplete or inaccurate, causing difficulties for urban management in general. Therefore, a new, modern and effective management approach is needed.

The utility of GIS applications in urban planning and development is proven through it’s effective use in many countries throughout the world.. However, the application of GIS in urban management in our country has the following key benefits and problems:

- Advantage:

            + The strong development of science and technology, especially information technology

 - Disadvantages:

            + Limited staff and expertise of the systems

            + The information posted is usually in the sensitive area so updating is often difficult

With practical experience when participating in a series of construction planning projects (regional construction planning, urban master planning, zoning planning, detailed planning, rural residential area planning, etc.) ACUD Investment and Construction Design Consultancy Joint Stock Company (ACUD) has gradually recognized GIS as a useful tool in integrating database systems with satellite mapping as it has been widely adopted in many developed countries. The application of GIS in the field of construction planning will help reinvent and improve the efficiency of design, which is an effective tool for departments, sectors and localities in the management of urban development according to regulations.

Therefore, on August 16, 2017, ACUD cooperated with Delphi IMM Company - Federal Republic of Germany to hold a meeting to exchange experience on data management for construction planning utilizing GIS technology.

Attending the meeting were representatives of ACUD Company: Dr. Han Minh Cuong - Chairman of the Board, expert TS. Pham Huu Duc - Senior Expert, MSc. Bach Ngoc Tung - Planning Manager. Representing Delphi were Mr. Rolf Lessing - Director, Mr. Ralf Puchert and Mr. Mario Stutzki - Experts.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged practical experiences in the standardization of GIS for generating a database of dwellings within localities and developing a database on current status of urban development (topography, geology, land use, social infrastructure, technical infrastructure, environment, digital elevation models ...). In addition, the two sides pointed out the shortcomings that exist in Vietnam and provide solutions when applying the GIS in the planning, implementation and management of urban construction. If the data is complete and accurate, the QH project is of new quality and efficiency.

The meeting ended well, the representatives of the two companies agreed to work together to, step by step, build the GIS system into the field of construction planning in Vietnam.
